Dalam sembilan film pendek yang dipilih dalam kurasi “Keluarkan Isi Hatiku” kita diajak mengalami isi hati Paul dalam film-film pendek yang disutradarainya. Perlakuan visual yang beragam dipilih sesuai emosi cerita yang ingin disampaikan. Dari mulai karya artistik yang dapat dinikmati bagaikan lukisan bergerak, naratif linear, kerancuan emosi dalam warna dan suara, visualisasi puisi, maupun dokumenter. Seluruhnya sekaligus memberi gambaran perjalanan gaya Paul Agusta sebagai sutradara film pendek di kurun waktu 1999-2013.
In this nine shorts that were curated in “Get My Feelings Out”, we’re invited to experience Paul’s feeling through his directed shorts. He chose different visual treatment depends on the mood of his story. From visually artistic videos that can be enjoyed as seeing moving painting images, linear narrative, emotional chaos in color and sound, poem visualization, and documentary. All give us an overview of Paul Agusta’s directing style in the period of 1999-2003.
Tentang Paul Agusta
Lahir di Jakarta tahun 1980 dan belajar film di Amerika sebelum kembali ke Indonesia tahun 2003. Ia percaya bahwa tidak ada alasan untuk mematikan kreativitas untuk membuat film asalkan memiliki sebuah ide yang solid dan matang, sisanya adalah pelaksanaan. Film-film pendeknya telah diputar di berbagai festival film Indonesia dan Internasional. Sebelum 2007, Paul Agusta banyak dikenal sebagai kritikus film, manajer festival dan kurator film, namun sekarang ia memilih fokus sebagai pembuat film dan video.
Born in Jakarta in 1980 and studied film in America before returning to his homeland, Indonesia in 2003. He believes that there is no excuses for video-makers not to fulfill their creative urge as long as there’s a true resource of a solid and well-thought idea, the rest is simply implementation. His short videos (most of them realized with a limited budget) have been included in local and international film events and screenings. Prior to 2007, Agusta was mostly known as a film critic, festival manager and film curator, but nowadays he focuses on making films and videos.
