ABOUT THE PROGRAMMERS
Based in Bali, architect and designer duo Jindee Chua and Suriawati Qiu co-founded CushCush in 2002, a boutique design studio and workshop that works with the island’s artisans and craftsmen, utilising unique materials and infusing modern design sensibilities for architectural and design projects. Both lovers of art and culture, and avid believers in creative education for a better future, in 2016 they co-founded LagiLagi social initiative and CushCush Gallery, an alternative platform that embraces interactions and celebrates multi-disciplinary collaborations. Both Suriawati and Jindee believe in the constant process of unlearning, relearning and rediscovering, which are the three important aspects of their journey.
Currently they are undergoing a research and explorative program entitled ‘Colors of Bali’ that would see collaborations between CushCush, CushCush Gallery and Kajimundo, exploring natural dyes and pigments found within traditional crafts of Balinese culture. A Sunday morning zoom session between them with Minikino’s program director Fransiska Prihadi (Cika) wanting to learn more about documentary films led to invitation to be guest programmer for Minikino Monthly Screening & Discussion in April 2021!
