Objective

Abhichon Rattanabhayon (Thailand) will introduce documentary filmmaking starting by making a film alone or with a very small crew or very small budget.

Target audience/ participants:

Beginner/ Intermediate

  1. With filmmaking or without filmmaking experience
  2. Interest in observational documentary films
  3. Interest in social, political, and how filmmaking gives impact

Short Bio:

Abhichon Rattanabhayon is a photographer, cinematographer, and documentary filmmaker based in Bangkok, Thailand, with over 10 years of experience. In 2005, he received his bachelor’s degree in history from Kasetsart University. Following graduation in 2006, he began working as a commissioned photographer for Thaizeit magazine (Germany) and later for Klang Muang, a series of social documentaries with the Thai PBS TV channel in 2012.

He develops an interest in shooting documentary films about social issues in an observational style. Six Principals, Pakbara (honorable mention at Thai short film and video festival 2015), and Sawankhalai (honorable mention at Thai short film and video festival 2017) are his short documentaries. Among his notable works as a cinematographer are #BKKY, a feature documentary that premiered in Busan in 2016 and later released on Netflix Thailand, and With History in a Room Filled with People with Funny Names 4, a short film that won the Ammodo Tiger Short Award in Rotterdam in 2018. Scala, a feature documentary he produced and edited, recently premiered in Berlin in 2022.
