Short films are an integral part of the long history of cinema.
Starting out in documentary formats to the more experimental formats which continue to be explored. Most, if not all, directors in the leading film industry, started their careers by making short films. It’s a highly versatile medium which can respond to a story with more intimacy. Short films also have potential to be distributed through a wide option of distribution schemes.
Short Film Market section in Minikino Film Week formalized in 2019. Since then, every year the MFW Short Film Market programs promote networking, and aims to boost economic values by encouraging professional interaction in short film production and distribution.

Pass holders can register their short film on site to be screened under the following regulations:
- Again, pass holders only!
- On-site registration only and will be open 30 minutes before the event starts.
- Only for short films with max. duration of 20 minutes.
- Films will be screened in order, from shortest to longest.
- Only 1 (one) film per director/representative
- Director/representative must present their short film in person (2 minutes or less).
- A digital copy of the film must be provided and ready to screen. Only films using H.264 standard video compression and
- 1080p HD resolution will be accepted. No DCP or ProRes.
- Screening time is limited to 60 minutes. Shorter films are more likely to be screened.
- Again, no selection!

This year, Roast Your Shorts turns its attention from script to screen as four production teams from the Lensa Iklim Bali Short Film Fellowship 2026 present the rough cuts of their upcoming short films. Organised in collaboration with Bali Net Zero Emission Coalition, this initiative brings to light the human, cultural, and social dimensions of local climate action across Bali. In this open feedback forum, each rough cut (under 8 minutes) will be screened followed by up to 15 minutes of candid audience response and community discussion. It is a collaborative space to test work-in-progress cuts, exchange constructive perspectives, and shape these stories before they make their way to broader audiences.

This year, Toast Your Shorts offers a new way to share and talk about your work. Open to all genres—fiction, animation, documentary, and experimental—from our Official Selection, South East Asia Network, and Indonesia Raja 2026, this session brings filmmakers and audiences into the same room for a quick, focused look at selected films. With only ten spots available, we will play the first 90 seconds of each short, followed by 5 minutes of direct feedback and conversation with visiting programmers, guests, and fellow attendees. It is a simple, relaxed setup to test your opening, hear fresh reactions, and toast your short with the industry guests and fellow audience members.

Adapted from the World Café methodology, this session fosters dynamic, small-group dialogues designed to spark collective insight. Following an opening framework on the regional importance of Southeast Asian short film culture, participants will divide into interactive tables to tackle key questions surrounding thematic trends, dissemination, and artistic evolution. The forum concludes with a shared harvesting session, weaving together individual group perspectives.
