Director’s Bio
Jeissy Trompiz
Maracaibo, Venezuela, 1986. Film director and screenwriter, graduated from the San Antonio de los Baños International Film and TV School (EICTV), Cuba. He has also been closely associated with theater and photography with photographic exhibitions and projects on immigrant and displaced communities. He is passionate about experimenting with the various genres and cinematographic forms, a concern that leads him to make hybrid, fiction, documentary and experimental films. He is strongly motivated by issues that reflect on the origin of humanity, as well as social and political problems that he afflicts us today.
He participated in the Berlinale Talens 2020 as a director. He has had international projection with his short films that have participated in different festivals such as: Huesca International Film Festival, La Havana International Film Festival, Dresden International Film Festival, among others. His first feature film, La Imagen del Tiempo, (Cuba-Dom. Rep.-Italy-Venezuela) had its premiere as part of the official selection at FIDMarseille 2020 (winner of the Prix des Lycées award), it was also part of the official selection at the Kolkata International Film Festival 2019, India.
He is currently in the post-production of the short film JOKO & PUTRA, shot in Indonesia, and the fiction short film I Suoni del tempo, co-produced with Aamod (Italy) as part of the Zavattini Award program for the development of films with film archive material. On the other hand, he is developing the documentary feature film La Lengua del Agua, and the fiction feature film Jepirra, el Paraíso. Both projects explore his relationship with his indigenous roots.
