ABOUT MINIKINO FILM WEEK 11
MINIKINO FILM WEEK (MFW) 11 is the annual Bali International Short Film Festival. The eleventh edition will be held from Friday 12 September 2025 to Friday, 19 September 2025.
Minikino Film Week has always been an in-person festival, bringing audiences and projection screens together at physical venues. Screenings take place in Micro Cinemas and Pop-up Cinemas, complemented by auxiliary events such as Community Screenings held across various locations in Bali.
Minikino Film Week, Bali’s International Short Film Festival, presents the International Competition featuring films from its official selection. Additionally, the festival showcases various programs, including the annual Indonesia Raja, a national short film exchange program; S-Express, a Southeast Asian programmers network; the national competition BEGADANG; and
international collaborations and programs from the festival’s extensive network
MFW SHORT FILM MARKET was added in 2019 and become the addition for the MFW celebrating short films. Film Market presents Exhibitions, Talks, Seminars and Workshops related to the industry, Market Screenings, Professional Gathering, VR Room and the Short film library. Pushing towards the global ecosystem of the short film industry.
MFW EDUCATION is the latest addition to festival that first time executed in 2024, offered a gateway for anyone who would interested to understand more about the festival, short film productions and also several workshops for kids and family as an early introduction to film.
Minikino highlights short films as cultural expressions, embodying the social and cultural values of the artists and communities behind them. Minikino believe that culture can only exist and develop with exchange, not isolation.

1. CASH PRIZE AWARDS
1.1. MFW Best Short Film of the Year Award 2025 winner will get Rp. 5.000.000,- (Five Million Rupiah) cash prize. (Indonesia Premiere status required)
1.2. National Competition Award 2024 winner will get Rp. 5.000.000,- (Five million Rupiah) cash prize. (Bali Premiere status required)
1.3. Rp. 5.000.000.- (Five million Rupiah) for Begadang Filmmaking Competition 2024.
2. NON-MONETARY AWARDS
Non-monetary awards are given in the form of a dedicated online announcements as a Public
Acknowledgment Of Excellence, and an exclusive MFW Award medallions
2.1. MFW11 Programmer’s Choice Award
2.2. MFW11 Best Children Short Award
2.3. MFW11 Best Fiction Short Award
2.4. MFW11 Best Documentary Short Award
2.5. MFW11 Best Animation Short Award

MFW award medallion for the winners will be sent by post if the winners are unable to attend the
awards ceremony.
3. A TWO-WEEK ARTIST ACCOMMODATION OFFER IN BALI, INDONESIA
All winners, including Non-Monetary Award winners, also receive a two-week artist residency at MASH Denpasar in Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia. This offer includes a daily stipend of Rp150,000, excluding flight costs.
Accommodation for 2025 Award Winners must be booked between 1 November 2025 until 30 April 2026 only.
4. REWARDS & OFFERS FOR OFFICIAL SELECTION FILMS
Provided upon request, exclusively for filmmakers with Official Selected films;
4.1. Laurel & certificate. A unique and official laurel and digital certificate in vector on pdf.
4.2. Bahasa Indonesia subtitle for any of your further distributions. Bahasa Indonesia subtitle in .srt for your film is available. Please never hesitate to ask right after the festival ended.
4.3. Attending filmmaker with OFFICIAL SELECTION films;
4.3.1 Meal voucher redeemable at our partner food stalls, valid during festival dates.
4.3.2 Two (2) festival passes per film title for all access including the Awarding Night & Closing Party.
4.3.3 One (1) room two (2) nights hotel accommodation (including breakfast) for a maximum of two (2) persons per film title. The Director/ Producer/ Writer have to be one of them.
4.4. Attending filmmaker with AWARD NOMINEES films;
4.4.1 Meal voucher redeemable at our partner food stalls, valid during festival dates.
4.4.2 Two (2) festival passes per film title for all access including the Awarding Night & Closing Party.
4.4.3 One (1) room four (4) nights hotel accommodation (including breakfast), for a maximum of two (2) persons per film title. The Director/ Producer/ Writer have to be one of them.
5. NOMINEES AND AWARDS ANNOUNCEMENT
5.1. The 2025 Nominees will be officially announced on 1 August 2025 through https://minikino.org/filmweek
5.2. Award Winners will be officially announced on stage at the MFW11 International Awarding event: Friday, 19 September 2025, and will be updated on https://minikino.org/filmweek on Thursday, 25 September 2025.
WHAT KIND OF SHORT FILMS ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
Minikino Film Week is looking for a short film that stands out, something that is daring to be different, something that make us think in ways we never expected to, whilst keeping it short, simple and understandable.
- Minikino highly valued an achievement beyond just the audio visual quality; giving the cinema experience that brought us to tears, made us laugh, or reminded us of something we’d almost forgotten.

RULES & TERMS
1. ON NOTICE!
1.1. Submitter should be the one who is responsible for the copyright of the film.
1.2. You may submit more than one film as long as each film meets the eligibility requirements.
1.3. By submitting, you agree to showcase your work in Minikino Film Week without a screening fee.
1.4. By submitting, you are committed to showcase your work, if it gets selected.
1.5. Your information provided in the submission form will be used as a reference for all publications, social media and on the website, and everything related to festival publications. Please carefully check name spelling, email address, and social media
handles.
1.6. Most of our notification emails have deadlines. Make sure you give us an email address that you will regularly check.
2. TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR SHORT FILMS & VR FILMS
Please prepare your digital data of your work as;
2.1. Preview the submission and selection must be the final work with no watermark or embedded logo that was not meant to be part of the film aesthetic.
2.2. Any work in progress and or embedded with additional watermarks will be instantly rejected.
2.3. Please notify if artificial intelligence (AI) was used at any stage of the production or postproduction process for your film.
2.4. Technical requirements for short films.
2.4.1 Maximum duration for short films is 25 minutes, no extra second allowed.
2.4.2 Short films that have been produced or premiered after 1 January 2023.
2.4.3 Full HD 1080p in 25 or 24 fps preferred.
2.4.4 H.264 with 15mbps compression Mp4 container preferred.
2.4.5 Presentation will be in stereo audio format only.
2.4.6 Screening format will be in 16:9 (wide screen) ratio, 1920x1080px; Other ratios will be presented with a pillar box or letter box, avoiding unwanted stretched images.
2.4.7 Spoken & written language in the film; A Bahasa Indonesia subtitles will be produced based on provided English language/ subtitles. Bahasa Indonesia subtitles sponsored by minikinostudio.com, with no extra cost, Therefore;
2.4.8 All short films must be presented in their original language.
2.4.9 Films with non-English dialogue must be accompanied with English subtitles in the SubRip/srt file. Therefore, a clean version of the film (without embedded/ burned subtitle) is compulsory.
2.4.10 For English spoken film, please provide a dialog list, especially for the film with strong accents/ dialects.
2.5. Technical requirements for VR films:
2.5.1 Maximum duration for VR films is 15 minutes, no extra second allowed.
2.5.2 VR films from any production year are welcome.
2.5.3 Only for VR Films that is compatible to be viewed in Oculus Quest 2.
2.5.4 VR films with non-English dialogue must be accompanied with English subtitles embedded.
2.6. Promotional materials / Electronic Press Kits (EPK)
2.6.1 Professional photo of the director in good quality.
2.6.2 At least, three (3) stills from the film.
2.6.3 Digital poster in 1:1 ratio for social media promotional purposes.
2.6.4 Printing quality film poster’s file.
3. SELECTION PROCESS
3.1. AN INVITATION TO BE THE 2025 OFFICIAL SELECTIONS
3.1.1 If selected, you will receive an invitation email asking you to send your digital file of final work to the festival’s programming team.
3.1.2 There will be a consent form before the given deadline date.
3.1.3 Your status on this stage is still subject to change back to ‘undecided’, furthermore to ‘not selected’ until all requirements are satisfied (See no.1 Technical Requirements). This includes meeting the deadlines given to respond to the invitation and filling out the consent form.
3.2. ‘SELECTED’ OR ‘NOT SELECTED’ STATUS IS FINAL
3.2.1 Your final state will be officially declared on the notification date 31 May 2025
3.2.2 Short Films with “SELECTED” status are the Official Selection status, and become part of the festival’s programs & competitions.
3.3. ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE NOMINEES AND AWARD WINNERS
3.3.1 The Award Nominees will be contacted by email, and announced to the public 1 (one) month prior to the festival’s date. This is in early August 2025.
3.3.2 Award Winners will be announced on stage at the international Awarding of the festival, Friday, 19 September 2025.
3.3.3 Announcement will also be available at Minikino Film Week official website and all the MFW Social Media.
3.4. SHORT FILM LIBRARY (Optional)
The Short Film Library is part of the MFW Film Market, available exclusively for accredited professionals and is open during the dates of the festival only. Each year, there are lists of short films that were not selected, yet received special attention from the selection team. We may offer these short films to take part, specifically in MFW Short Film Market, The Short Film Library.

4. COMPETITION ELIGIBILITY, CERTIFICATES & RECOGNITION
Please note that VR films are non-competitive.
4.1. INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION
Only for the productions that meet the following conditions are eligible for competition
and considered for awards;
4.1.1 All officially selected films will be automatically considered for competition.
4.1.2 Only for short films that have been released after 1 January 2023.
4.1.3 VR films are non-competitive.
4.1.4 Only the award nominees will be notified via email and publicly announced one month before the festival, in early August 2025.
4.1.5 Only for International submissions (Including Indonesia’s productions enter through International Submission)
4.2. NATIONAL COMPETITION
Only for Indonesia’s productions that meet the following conditions may be eligible to be
considered and nominated for awards;
4.2.1 Must hold Bali premiere status (exception for Indonesia Raja 2025 screenings). The film must never have been screened in Bali outside MFW11 and or Indonesia Raja 2025 screenings, before the end date of MFW11 Festival (Friday, 19 September 2025)
4.2.2 Only for Indonesian productions, including films selected in Indonesia Raja 2025 and or S-Express 2025 Indonesia.
4.2.3 Must have been released after 1 January 2023.
4.2.4 A statement email from producer/director will be required; stating that the film will hold its Bali premier status for MFW11.
4.2.5 MFW11 committees have the right to cancel the nomination status if we found out that the film had been screened at other event / festival in Bali before MFW11 commenced;
4.2.6 Bali Premiere requirements are waived for all films that are selected in the Indonesia Raja 2025 programs.
4.3. INTERNATIONAL PREMIERE RECOGNITION CERTIFICATE
Provided upon request for short films that meet the following conditions:
4.3.1 INTERNATIONAL PREMIERE are only for a Non-Indonesia’s productions.
4.3.2 Only for films that have never been shown anywhere other than their country of origin.
4.3.3 A statement email from producer(s)/director(s) is needed; Stated that the work have not been, and will not presented at any other International screening event neither live nor online (exhibited on the Internet with open access/publicly) before the end date of MFW11 Festival (Friday, 19 September 2025).
4.4. NATIONAL PREMIERE RECOGNITION CERTIFICATE
Provided upon request for short films that meet the following conditions:
4.4.1 Only for Indonesia’s productions
4.4.2 Only for films that have never been shown in Indonesia.
4.4.3 A statement email from producer(s)/director(s) is needed; Stated that the work have not been, and will not presented at any other National screening event neither live nor online (exhibited on the Internet with open access/publicly) before the MFW11 closing date (Friday, 19 September 2025).
4.5. WORLD PREMIERE RECOGNITION CERTIFICATE
Provided upon requestfor short films that meet the following conditions:
4.5.1 Only for films that have never been showing/premiered at all, and MFW11 festival dates will be the first time public showing of the work.
4.5.2 A statement email from producer(s)/director(s) is needed; Stated that the work have not been, and will not presented at any other screening event neither live nor online (exhibited on the Internet with open access/publicly) before the end date of MFW11 Festival (Friday, 19 September 2025).
4.6. OFFICIAL SELECTIONS RECOGNITION CERTIFICATE.

5. ENTRY FEE WAIVER & DISCOUNT ELIGIBILITY
No waiver granted during extended submission (after 7 April 2025). Please send your waiver request to waiver@minikino.org
5.1. INDONESIAN DIRECTOR(S) & PRODUCER(S)
Get a 50% discount code upon receipt of a copy of a current and valid ID card (KTP) or Indonesian Passport with your cover letter in email.
5.2. ALL STUDENTS (National & International)
One waiver code for one film per-director only, upon receipt of an email proposal with a copy of a current and valid student ID card or a letter from an accredited school verifying enrollment.
5.3. FILMMAKERS WITH 2024 OFFICIALLY SELECTED WORK (MFW10).
Are you our last year’s alumni? Of Course we remember you, but please email us with some proof.
CONTACT US AND GET THE WAIVER CODE FIRST BEFORE SUBMITTING. ONCE PAID WE HAVE NO AUTHORITY TO CANCEL OR RETURN YOUR SUBMISSION PAYMENT.
MFW committee reserves the right to refuse your waiver proposal, at its discretion, including, without limitation. MFW Waiver grants you a limited, revocable, non-transferable and nonexclusive license to submit your short film to the MINIKINO FILM WEEK for your own personal use only.
NO WAIVER GRANTED DURING EXTENDED SUBMISSION (after 7 April 2025).
