MFW6 NOMINEES

MFW6 AWARDS is a NON-MONETARY REWARD in the form of a Certificate Of Achievement signed by the Committee, and dedicated online announcements as a PUBLIC ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF EXCELLENCE.

These nominees are recommended by the programming team, selected by the program director and then given to the 2020 Jury Board members to be previewed closely. The final decision will be taken by the festival committee, based on these recommendations by the 2020 Jury Board members.

The winner of each category will receive a two weeks artist-residency accommodation at MASH Denpasar that could be used in 2021-2022.

MFW BEST SHORT FILM OF THE YEAR 2020 NOMINEES

2020 is a crazy year and we have a different set of mind when reality is weirder than films. These films bear some resemblance to the society that we used to know but perhaps never really understand or even missed in a used to be faster world.

A THOUSAND SAILS (木已成舟)

  • The flow of this film is an effortless breath promising subtle picturesque longing of human connection.


BOTTLENECK
Måns Berthas / Sweden / 2019 / 08:00

  • Set in a familiar feeling of unjust situation, the outcome might be surprising.

MFW NATIONAL COMPETITION AWARD 2020 NOMINEES

We are about to see Indonesia through the eyes of these nominees, opening rooms for quesions and discussion, and alluring mix that might made us wonder.

These nominees are selected for their exceptional sensitivity towards different stories that shown while remain artistic, meaningful and memorable. Child trauma, rebel, the animal spirit within you, bad parenting, magical.

Minikino believes short films are highly influential and could leave a big impact for children. All four nominees would open children (and also adult’s) eyes towards imaginative, artistic and inspiring world of cinema.

MFW6 PROGRAMMER’S CHOICE NOMINEES

Minikino Film Week strives to build a strong cinema culture and critical audience. The selection committee and programmers try to balance both with this year’s selection, hoping to give the best experience for each audience while at the same time also highlight the exceptional short films this year. Each nominees’ theme in this category are different, yet we felt a strong sense of urgency to be able to talk about these topic. All three nominees have a genuine vulnerable approach in showing the challenging stories.

THE SON (兒子)

  • An exploration of woman’s struggle coping with her emotion, desire, responsibility, and the son’s power plays.


VIDEOTHEK

  • This film becomes more important in 2020 due to the context of covid-19 situation that changes the whole landscape of film festival.


WHEN LIGHT FADES

MFW6 YOUTH JURY NOMINEES

MFW6 Youth Juries make their choice from a range of the short films specially selected from 2020 Official Selections and deciding which of these will get the MFW6 Youth Jury Award. The Youth Juries completed an intensive training in the Youth Jury Online Camp 2020.

  • Through a humorous lens, a serious and educating topic transformed into a clever entertaining film with quirky vibe and heartfelt all at once.

AND THEN THE BEAR (L’Heure de l’Ours)

  • A fantastical experience, almost like reminiscent of a fever dream that brought by a beautiful minimalist animation with abstract narrative and strong character. The sound design and music are intertwined and are at times haunting, giving an ethereal quality to the film.

A THOUSAND SAILS (木已成舟)

  • A very endearing film that was beautifully shot and engaging in so many ways. The detachment of a child from their parents, establishing their own world is a universal concept of ‘a bird leaving the nest’. However at the same time the film also demonstrates the value put on pride and independence, especially when it comes to Asian culture.

BEGADANG FILMMAKING COMPETITION 2020 NOMINEES

BEGADANG FILMMAKING COMPETITION 2002 is among the pre-events of MFW6. Competition takes place on Saturday 25 July 2020. The Competition challenge participants to produce a short fiction film project within 34 hours. Begadang Filmmaking Competition is limited for anyone with Indonesian KTP or Passport only.
