MFW BEST SHORT FILM OF THE YEAR AWARD 2021

US$200 cash prizes will be given exclusively to the winner of the Best Short Film of the Year Award 2021

MFW7 NATIONAL COMPETITION AWARD 2021

National competition is only for the nominated Indonesian directors/producers. One winner of the National Competition Award 2021 shall win Rp 2.000.000,- (Two Million Rupiahs) (US$130)

BEGADANG FILMMAKING COMPETITION 2021

One winner of the Begadang Filmmaking Competition 2021 shall win Rp. 5.000.000.- (Five million rupiahs)(US$300)

THE RWI ASIA PACIFIC AWARD AT MFW7

One best film produced in the Asia Pacific region will be selected to receive The RWI Asia Pacific Award at MFW7 and win a cash prize worth of Rp. 10.000.000,- (Ten Million Rupiahs)


The rest of MFW7 AWARDS is a NON-MONETARY REWARD in the form of a Certificate Of Achievement signed by the Committee, and dedicated online announcements as a PUBLIC ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF EXCELLENCE.

These nominees are recommended by the programming team, selected by the program director and then given to the 2021 Jury Board members to be previewed. The final decision will then taken by the festival committee, based on these recommendations by the 2021 Jury Board members.

MFW BEST SHORT FILM OF THE YEAR 2021

The MFW7 committee leave this category without any introduction for the juries. We will keep an open mind and save the ‘introduction’ as the summary of the jury deliberation meeting. How do you define the Best Short Film of the year 2021 at Minikino Film Week?
The nominees are:

I BOUGHT A TIME MACHINE // Yeon Park / United States / 2020 / Documentary / 14:35 // The filmmaker orders a time machine off of eBay for her father’s birthday, which raises existential questions about the past.

MFW7 BEST CHILDREN SHORT

When under 13 years old children are exposed to many audio-visual works through their television and smartphones, what would a short film festival have to offer? Minikino Film Week 7 would like to offer a fresh point of view about short films that open rooms for conversations between children and their peer group friends, families, and adults.

When everything feels broken, these documentaries offer a personal approach to vulnerable topics and shed a light to hope.

MFW7 BEST FICTION SHORT

The year of 2020 and 2021 is already stranger than fiction. Sometimes we would like to be transported into a different universe, really we might see a familiar reality. The three nominees for MFW7 Best Fiction Short Award explore personal struggles that would allow the audience to better understand human vulnerability.
The nominees are:

GREAT CELEBRATION (Festa Grande) // Gianmaria Sortino / Italy / 2021 / 12:54 // A family initiation rite marks the price to pay to pass from adolescence to adulthood.

HAUTE CUISINE (Nouvelle Saveur) // Merryl Roche / France / 2019 / 24:15 // During a service, Marie cuts herself, letting a few drops of blood mix with her sauce. Her boss judges it to be perfect…

MAKASSAR IS A CITY FOR FOOTBALL FANS (LIKA LIKU LAKI) // Khozy Rizal / Indonesia, France / 2020 / 20:00 // In a city when the ‘men’ have to go crazy about football, Akbar has to pretend to love football in order to prevent rejection.


MFW7 PROGRAMMER’S CHOICE

The selection committee and programmers try to balance both with this year’s selection, hoping to give the best experience for each audience while at the same time also highlight the exceptional short films this year. Minikino Film Week strives to build a strong cinema culture and critical audience.

LUU NGAL CHAY KYA (AGE OF YOUTH) // Myo Thar Khin / Myanmar / 2020 / Fiction / 24:00 // Young Employees from a plastic ware store , Sithu & Min Htet plan a mission for Sithu to elope with a girl.

BETTER MEN // Guillaume Doucet / France / 2020 / Fiction / 11:12 // In a support group, Dave, a heavy-set man in his fifties, shares his story with difficulty. The participants begin to stand up.


BEGADANG FILMMAKING COMPETITION 2021 NOMINEES

BEGADANG FILMMAKING COMPETITION is a National Short Film Competition that challenges participants to develop their idea, write the script, shoot, edit and, even arrange the music (scoring), all within the very tight schedule. All these films were produced and completed within 34 hours. Kisahpedia and PT Kino Media Nusantara are the proud sponsors of Begadang 2021 promoting diversity and tolerance in Indonesia.

THE RWI ASIA PACIFIC AWARD AT MFW7

The Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law through Minikino Film Week 7 pays attention to short films deal with an array of equality, diversity and environmental concerns.

One best film produced in the Asia Pacific region will be selected to receive The RWI Asia Pacific Award at MFW7 and win a cash prize worth of Rp. 10.000.000,- (Ten Million Rupiahs)
