2023 AWARD WINNERS & NOMINEES LIST

All category winners are also offered a two-week artist accommodation at MASH Denpasar as an additional award.

MFW BEST SHORT FILM OF THE YEAR AWARD 2023

MFW Best Short Film of the Year Award 2023 winner will get Rp. 5.000.000,- (Five Million Rupiahs) cash prize.

MFW9 NATIONAL COMPETITION AWARD 2023

The nominees were selected by the MFW9 programming team based on the most outstanding, enthusiastic, and creatively energetic works to showcase Indonesian short films. National Competition Award 2023 winner gets Rp. 2.500.000,- (Two Million Five Hundred Thousand Rupiahs) cash prize and 1 (one) unit LUMIX G90 KIT by Lumix Indonesia.

This year’s National Competition Award special mentions  will be awarded a two-week artist accommodation at MASH Denpasar. Accommodation must be booked between 1 October 2023 and 1 September 2024. Winners (max. 2 people) fare eligible to claim accommodation if they occupy the following positions

BEGADANG FILMMAKING COMPETITION 2023

Begadang Filmmaking Competition challenges participants to develop their ideas, write the script, shoot, edit, and make their own music scoring. Produce and submit a short film all within a tight schedule of 34 hours.

There were 67 production groups registered and 56 succeeded in meeting the deadline. Rp. 5.000.000.- (Five million Rupiahs) for the winner of Begadang Filmmaking Competition 2023. The special mention for this category also gets 1 (one) unit LUMIX G90 KIT by Lumix Indonesia.

THE RWI ASIA PACIFIC AWARD AT MFW9

Since 2021, The Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law, are giving the RWI Asia Pacific Awards at MFW, to honor short films produced in Asia Pacific focusing on human rights, gender equality, and climate change issues. Three films will be selected by RWI representatives to receive the RWI Asia Pacific Award at MFW9. One main winner will receive Rp 15,000,000 cash prize and two runners-up will each receive Rp7,500,000 cash prize.

RANGKAI AWARD AT MFW9

RANGKAI was invited to preview the MFW9 NATIONAL COMPETITION NOMINEES. One winner will be announced at the MFW9 Awarding event and receive Rp 2,500,000 cash prize. The selected films are not merely an interesting idea of the story or the unique way of expressing it, but it boldly brought up issues that are signified with the problems of today’s Indonesia. Through the symbols carried in the film’s plot, it offers a deep contemplation and leaves us a bitter feeling.


The rest of the MFW9 AWARDS is a NON-MONETARY REWARD in the form of a Certificate Of Achievement signed by the Committee, and dedicated online announcements as a PUBLIC ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF EXCELLENCE.

The programming team and program director recommends these winners, and then given to the 2023 Jury Board members to be previewed. The festival committee has made the final decision based on the recommendations of the 2023 Jury Board deliberation meetings.
