MFW Open Screening is a unique screening event open for public. Please read these rules;

  • The representative of the short film MUST ATTEND the screening and get a max 3 minutes talk to present the film.
  • The registration of film is on location (open 30 minutes ahead of schedule) and you have to bring the digital file of the film that is ready to screened, with specific technical regulation (h.264 & 1080p only)
  • 1 Director/representative can register 1 film only.
  • Any kind of short film no longer that 20 mins is welcome, no selection AT ALL.
  • Shorter duration will get screened earlier than the longer short.
  • The event will only run for 2 hours max, so the shorter your film will get bigger chance to get on the screen.

MEDIA GATHERING

Hosted by the VIVERE and MINIKINO FILM WEEK MEDIA GATHERING is an open gathering especially for media professionals, writers, journalist and fimmakers.
Get up close and personal with Minikino Film Week in various topic, ranging from the films selected, festival programmes, micro cinemas and pop-up cinemas, art & culture collaboration, education, women and youth empowerment, and so forth.


SHORT FILM LIBRARY

OPENS DAILY, 5 – 11 OCTOBER 2019 13:00 – 19:00 AT MASH DENPASAR. PASS HOLDER AND ACCREDITED ONLY

SHORT FILM LIBRARY is a room equiped with laptops and an offline server, where all the films that was registered for the library are available private previewing. Everything is off-line and copy protected, yet all information including professional contact of the film will be accessible to the user.

PUTRI AYUDYA: HACKING THE CHARACTER

putri-ayudyaPutri Ayudya is an Indonesian Actor, Public Figure, and Social Activist. Her notable works are Kenapa Harus Bule? & KAFIR: Bersekutu Dengan Setan (award nominee for FFI & IMAA for best actress). She was found by talent scout for Guru Bangsa: Tjokroaminoto in 2013. Beside acting on theater stage and in movies, she’s also working on spreading acting as a life skill by talking in classes, open forum discussion, teaching both actors and non-actors on the practicality of acting techniques in daily lives. In 2018, she founded MondiBlanc Acting Lab, a collaborative space between various artists, institution, working actors, and academics in conducting research concerning acting and various issues in Indonesia. This year, the lab is focusing on the topic of acting and mental health. In this five hours acting workshop, Putri will work with the selective participants on ‘The Magic 3’ which is reading script, character interpretation and creating the character’s form.

UPCYCLE FASHION, MAKE YOUR OWN TOTE BAG

Minikino Film Week and Myra Juliarti collaborate in the making of this year’s festival bag using the upcycle fashion concept. In promoting upcycle fashion, MFW promote exchanging used clothes with a festival pass. and a tote bag.

In this workshop Myra will talk about design and basic hand-sewing tricks in the process of making the bag.

PRESERVING, RESTORING AND PROMOTING FILM ARCHIVE

kiki-muchtarKiki managed a film preservation center in Jakarta when she took part in the restoration of Tjoet Nja’ Dhien, the highest-grossing Indonesian film in 1988 that also became the first Indonesian film competed in La Semaine de la Critique Cannes Film Festival. Currently, Kiki is a Program Manager at In-Docs, a nonprofit organization committed to cultivating a culture of openness through documentary films.

sanchaiSanchai Chotirossenae is currently the Deputy Director of the Film Archive (Public Organization), Thailand. He supervises administration, strategy and planning department, and the Thai Film Institute. He is also one of the programmers of the Thai Short Film and Video Festival, Salaya International Documentary Film Festival and Silent Film Festival in Thailand.

Sanchai Chotirossenae (Thai Film Archive) and Kiki Muchtar (Trio Lestari Coy) will be sharing their experience in film restoration. Together they will give us insight into the importance of film archive.

THE ART OF SUBTITLING, LIVE & RECORDED DUBBING

Since 2015, extra (almost a thousand hours) were put into Bahasa Indonesia subtitles for all films that are selected to be screened for public. More than 200 short films that are screened with Bahasa Indonesia subtitles every year. Since 2018, Minikino collaborates with Teater Kalangan for live and recorded dubbing of few selected films to be screened in Balinese language for pop-up cinema audience in villages around Bali during Minikino Film Week. Meet the people behind the subtitles and dubbing. They will be sharing the process, challenges, and joy of their work.

What is fake film festival? How do you identify fake & pseudo film festivals?

JUKKA-PEKKA LAAKSO is the festival director of Tampere Film Festival. He has been involved with the selection and programming since 2000. As a festival director he shares the responsibility to strategic planning and programming with the co-director of the festival. He is also the executive director for Pirkanmaa Film Centre a local film centre in Tampere. The film centre is a non-profit organisation that runs an art-house cinema, distributes films in Finland and works extensively with media education. Jukka-Pekka Laakso is a member of European Film Academy.

Roger Gonin will give presentation about the development of magic lantern, the first projector and one of the leading antecedants of the movies. He has a dream to one day establish a museum dedicated to magic lanterns and stereoscopic viewers, has directed two shorts and worked on several others. He is currently making historical researches and lectures about itinerants showing the magic lantern during the XVIIIth and XIXth centuries.


ANGGUN PRADESHA, DOCUMENTARY TRANSGENDER FILMMAKER:

ADVANCING VISIBILITY IN INDONESIA

Anggun Pradesha, a Trans woman activist documentary filmmaker. Her first film “Emak dari Jambi” was a Project Change short film produced by Nia Dinata about her personal relationship as a trans woman and her mother’s acceptance process. In 2013-2018, Anggun was a member of operational board of SWARA, an organization for Empowering young Transgender Women Communities in Jakarta. Anggun now works with PKBI Pusat Jakarta ((Indonesian Planned Parenthood Association), a 61-year-old organization focusing on family and humanitarian issues with 25 Provincial branches and hundreds of Regency branches. Anggun is finishing her second documentary with Kalyana Shira Foundation.

They will share their journey on how they came out with the idea initially and use the power of storytelling and visualdesign both to get rid of stigma for mental health.

Some of those including nomination for best supporting cast in the US Theater Guild for his role as Woodstock on Broadway scripted SNOOPY the Musical, Jury Mention Award at Art Design in Photography Exhibition (Tulsa Oklahoma), joined street theater MANIFESTO Tour in the Netherlands, worked in a Hollywood film production with Sean Penn (Oscar Winning film MILK), Benjamjn Brett (La Mission), Julia Roberts (Eat Pray Love), choreographer & concept for Batik Fashion in Milan Italy, stylist & mentor Miss Asia California; Miss Asia USA; Miss Teen Asia USA, Stylist for Banana Republic San Francisco and the top debut appointed as one of the stylist & make-up artist of President Obama’s family in the Presidential Inauguration at the Washington DC White House. He was also responsible for President Obama’s family visit to Bali, Yogya & Jakarta notlong ago. Recently he launched his new venture Ba-Ju & Klambi Ethnic Atelier with KuKa (Aku Suka Indonesia) Foundation. He was entitled by Trans7 TV as #1 of 7 Indonesians Worldwide.
