The MFW Short Film Market is the annual sub-event of Minikino Film Week. A facility for meetings, promoting and networking. The intention is to facilitating economic values of the short film by encouraging professional interaction in the short film production, distribution and dissemination.


SHORT FILM LIBRARY

SHORT FILM LIBRARY is a space equipped with laptops and an offline server, where all the films that was registered for the library are available private previewing. Short film in the library is off-line and copy protected, yet all information including professional contact of the film will be accessible to the user.

  • Anyone can register their short film to be screened with some rules;
  • The representative of the short film must attend and get a max 3 minutes talk to present the film.
  • The registration of film is on location and you have to bring the digital file of the film that is ready to screened, with specific technical regulation (h.264 & 1080p only)
  • 1 director/representative for 1 film only.
  • Any kind of short film no longer that 20 mins. is welcome, no selection.
  • Shorter duration will get screened earlier than the longer short.
  • The event will only run for 2 hours max. The shorter your film will get bigger chance to get on the screen.

Please beware that contents showing can be unpredictable and uncomfortable for minors.


FORUM

Forum aims to expand the understanding of short film festival circuit and open up perspectives to help grasp the sustainability of short film as medium and ecosystem.
The current travel restriction and crowd limitation in September 2020 mean that MFW6 Forum will be presented by some of the speakers online.

While we are still trying to identify fake and pseudo film festivals, a new reality named covid-19 hits the world. The first of its kind, the situation forced short film festivals to rethink about its role and contribution as a communal, shared and unique experience they have been offering all this time. This session will give insights into why film festivals matter beyond 2020.

JUKKA-PEKKA LAAKSO
JUKKA-PEKKA LAAKSO is the festival director of Tampere Film Festival, a member of European Film Academy, and the executive director for Pirkanmaa Film Centre,a local film centre in Tampere(Finlandia). The film centre is a non-profit organisation that runs an art-house cinema, distributes films in Finland and works extensively with media education.

GINA DELLABARCA
GINA DELLABARCA is Festival Director and co-founder of Show Me Shorts in New Zealand. Vice Chair of the Board for the world-wide Short Film Conference.

 

KELLY LUI
KELLY LUI is the Shorts Programmer at the Toronto Reel Asian international Film Festival (Canada’s largest Pan-Asian film festival with its 24th edition in November 2020), a co-founder of The Asian Canadian Living Archive (TACLA) collective as well as a community arts facilitator who is constantly interested in the ways digital media can be a site and tool for social change.

KOYO YAMASHITA
KOYO YAMASHITA is a film curator, programmer of Theater Image Forum in Shibuya (Tokyo, Japan) since 2005, and artistic director of Image Forum Festival since 2001.

Kopi Selem is a traditionally brewed Balinese coffee. The name simply means Black Coffee, where fine grind (or sometimes also coarse) coffee grounds are brewed with or without sugar, resulting in a thick drink similar to Turkish coffee.
This live and recorded podcast session is where filmmakers meet filmmakers and talks about filmmaking.

NOSA NORMANDA
Nosa Normanda (an anthropologist, filmmaker, producer and former video journalist) hailed from Jakarta as the host of these sessions accompanied by the real Kopi Selem.

In the midst of shifts in film viewing, individualization and privatization of the audience, the cinema persists to be a collective social experience. What is needed to keep cinema strive in the future as we adapt to the new technology, and now the pandemic? This forum will also be joined by MFW6 Youth Juries; Kayla Amare Budiwarman, Qiu Mattane Lao, Seika Cintanya Sanger, Sophie Louisa & Stella Melody Winata.

TOMY W. TASLIM
Tomy is the founder and facilitator of the Festival Film Pelajar Jogja (FFPJ) and the Indonesian Student Film Forum (Forum Film Pelajar Indonesia). He studied at the Faculty of Seni Media Rekam Institut Seni Indonesia Yogyakarta and the Jakarta Arts Institute’s Film Postgraduate Program. He currently works in Yogyakarta and Jakarta.

SÉBASTIEN SIMON
is a filmmaker, a programmer for Busan International Short Film Festival and Jeju French Film Festival, and a board member of the Short Film Conference. He also contributed for several years to Slamdance Film Festival, Seoul International Extreme-Short Image & Film Festival and Rencontres Cinématographiques de Cavaillon. His latest works as director include One-minded (2014), Tetsu Kono’s crazy routine (2016), and The Troubled Troubadour (2016). He graduated from the ESEC film school and from Université Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne. He has published film articles and reviews in L’Avant-Scène Cinéma, Short Film Studies, BullesDeCulture.com and is a regular writer for Busan Beat magazine.

HO HOCK DOONG
is the Director of Content for MUBI Southeast Asia and is responsible for content acquisition and programming for the region. Previously he was Senior Assistant Vice President at ASTRO, where he acquired films for theatrical releases and for A-List and BOO channels, and commissioned “Doors: A Philippines Horror Anthology” and omnibus “Love Me, Tease Me” by Southeast Asian filmmakers.

JAIME E. MANRIQUE
Founder and director of the Bogotá Short Film Festival / Festival de cortos de Bogotá – BOGOSHORTS, conceptual designer of the #BOGOSHORTSMovement and strategist of his Latin American short films distribution agency #BOGOSHORTSFilmAgency. Founder and editor of #PANTALLACOLOMBIA for 20 years, a weekly newsletter of the latest Colombian film news, owned by Proimágenes Colombia, entity of which he has been a digital communication advisor in the last two decades.

SABRINA SPENCE
works with Ouat Media Inc., an international sales and distribution company specializing in short films. Sabrina entered the sales and distribution business with over 8 years of experience in broadcast programming. She has programmed for both specialty and conventional television stations specializing in the promotion and exhibition of short films.

VIVIAN IDRIS
with experience in various film productions in Indonesia, she founded the Blue Terong Initiative in 2013 focusing on documentary film production. She is Program Director of AKATARA Film Financing Forum since 2018.

Talks stand for the humanity discourse in which films stance towards their medium rather than the conversation of what commercial potential the film brings.

ANGGUN PRADESHA
Ialah pembuat film dokumenter aktivis transpuan. Film pertamanya “Emak dari Jambi” adalah film pendek Project Change yang diproduksi oleh Nia Dinata tentang kehidupan pribadinya sebagai perempuan trans dan proses penerimaan ibunya. Anggun sekarang bekerja dengan PKBI Pusat Jakarta (Perkumpulan Keluarga Berencana Indonesia), sebuah organisasi berusia 62 tahun yang berfokus pada masalah keluarga dan kemanusiaan dengan 25 cabang provinsi dan ratusan cabang kabupaten. Anggun adalah Mantan Badan Pengurus Organisasi Transpuan Muda Jakarta, Sanggar Swara 2013-2018. Sekarang Bekerja di PKBI Pusat Jakarta (Perkumpulan Keluarga Berencana Indonesia). Saat ini Anggun sedang menyelesaikan Film Dokumenter Keduanya bersama Kalyana Shira Foundation.

Announcement and sneak preview! Minikino Bali Artist Residency and Yamagata Documentary Dojo will be pairing up for a first-time exchange partnership to send filmmakers to each other’s residency programs. Speaking live from Hijiori hot spring village hidden away in the mountains of northern Japan, Fujioka Asako will introduce the 4-week retreat for Asian filmmakers set for February 2021, when the hamlet will be engulfed in deep snow. Minikino’s residency offers one Japan-based filmmaker a 4-week stay in Bali with the opportunity to take part in collaborative projects with locals. As a preview, we’ll try to visit the pop-up cinema in Pedawa LIVE!

The pandemic has reminded us that sharing time and physical space with others is a luxury. Indeed, despite the efficiency of zoom meetings and social messaging, we know how valuable the physical connection is for us as humans. Artist-in-residence (AIR) programs offer an off-line experience of cross-cultural exchange and discovery which incubates the creative process, more important than ever for independent filmmakers today.

ASAKO FUJIOKA
Board member of the Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival and Independent Cinema Guild Japan, member of executive committee for Tokyo Docs. She has been organizing workshop retreats for documentary filmmakers since 2009. In 2020 she was invited to the documentary branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and is currently producing a documentary about Japanese strip dancers.

ADE WIRAWAN
is the founder of Bali Deaf Community. Ade also a Deaf Activist in Bali, Public relations of the GERKATIN Bidang Kepemudaan, secretary of the GERKATIN Bali and sign language teacher/researcher. This year, Ade was accepted as International students at the Gallaudet University. Some of the experiences from recent years are award recipient for Youth Awards in Denpasar given by the Mayor of Denpasar (2017), Indonesian delegation at the United Nations in New York (2016). Ade also was a participant in the USA-Indonesia Youth Leadership, and in the Cultural Exchange and Human Right Program (2016). Ade focus to socialize and spread awareness about accessibility and opportunities for Deaf rights and Deaf Culture in Bali.

CLEAN BALI SERIES, PROMOTING ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS TO CHILDREN

Since it’s first publication in 2007, more than 7,000 of Clean Bali Series books 1 & 2 (trilingual) about protecting the environment have been distributed free of charge to schools in Bali and nearly 4,000 of book 1 (bilingual) to schools outside Bali. About 5,000 copies sold in various retail shops and bookstores in Bali and Jakarta have sustainably funded the publication of book 1 second edition in 2012. It is with great pleasure to finally launch the third book “Rajawali and the Children” and complete the Clean Bali Series at Minikino Film Week 6. Multilingual Children’s Books (English, Indonesian and Balinese) by Maggie Dunkle & Margiyono, translated by Made Taro & Etha Widiyanto. Published by Saritaksu Editions, Bali.

This session will also be accompanied by the launching of a special Bali edition of the educational colouring book “Plant a Tree and Good Things Happen!” in collaboration with Trees That Feed Foundation.

MONDIBLANC FILM WORKSHOP

MondiBlanc Film Workshop is a production based audio-visual educational workshop in Jakarta. It will be represented by its co-founder Nosa Normanda and give a presentation on teaching basic filmmaking techniques and storytelling, in order to empower people with little or no filmmaking skills to be able to create proper and understandable video sequences.
