LENSA IKLIM BALI SHORT FILM FELLOWSHIP bridges the vital worlds of climate action and creative storytelling, empowering filmmakers to bring local human, cultural, and social dimensions to the forefront of Bali’s transition toward a net-zero future.
Born from a collaborative initiative between the Koalisi Bali Emisi Nol Bersih and Minikino (Yayasan Kino Media), this fellowship moves climate conversations beyond traditional technical circles. By embedding production teams directly into grassroots initiatives across five designated locations—ranging from coastal energy resilience in Kusamba and digital fabrication in Serangan, to village-scale renewables, circular waste management, and sustainable urban mobility—the program fosters creative narratives that capture the real stories, achievements, and hopes of local communities.
Selected production groups receive comprehensive support, including intensive expert-led workshops, one-on-one mentorship, production grants, and platform exposure through a dedicated Rough Cut Presentation at Minikino Film Week 12 (MFW12), culminating in a prestigious public premiere at the upcoming Pekan Iklim Bali.

Fellowship Process: From Application to Premiere
- Application Phase (May 30–June 16, 2026): Production groups consisting of three mandatory core members (producer, writer, and director) submit their application, including KTPs, portfolios proving prior short film experience, and an 8-minute maximum short film story idea focused on one or more key climate themes (Waste, Renewable/Energy Resilience, Transport, Climate, or Community-Based Innovation).
- Online Socialization & Selection (June 8–June 24, 2026): An online live Q&A socialization session is hosted on YouTube for applicants, followed by a document screening period where shortlisted candidates are contacted for interviews.
- Announcement & In-Person Workshop (July 7–July 16, 2026): Selected production groups are publicly announced on July 7, 2026. The five chosen teams then participate in a mandatory three-day intensive offline workshop in Denpasar (July 14–16) featuring 1-on-1 mentoring with film experts and topic specialists to refine their scripts and production plans. Teams receive travel subsidies and accommodation support for this phase.
- Production & Mentorship (July 17–August 18, 2026): Armed with initial production grant funding (the first portion of a Rp15.000.000 total production support per group), fellows embark on the production and post-production phases across various locations in Bali under ongoing mentor guidance.
- Rough Cut Preparation & Presentation (August 31–September 16, 2026): Teams submit their rough cuts by August 31 in preparation for the festival showcase. Between September 14 and 16, fellows present their rough cuts for feedback during the Rough Cut Presentation & Feedback program at Minikino Film Week 12 (MFW12) in Denpasar, where they also contend for an additional Rp5.000.000 post-production and distribution support grant.
- Awards & Final Delivery (September 18–September 28, 2026): The best rough cut award is presented during the MFW12 award ceremony on September 18, 2026. Groups must submit their finalized films and electronic press kit (EPK) materials, including posters, no later than September 28, 2026.
- World Premiere (October 13–17, 2026): The completed short films make their official premiere during the Bali Climate Week 2026 events in Bali.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Registration for production teams to participate in the LENSA IKLIM BALI SHORT FILM FELLOWSHIP 2026 is open exclusively to Indonesian citizens with the following requirements:
The producer must be at least 21 years old and hold an Indonesian ID card (KTP). The producer serves as the primary contact for the production team, responsible for representing the group throughout participation.
- Each production team must consist of three members fulfilling the roles of producer, writer, and director. If any roles overlap, one additional team member is permitted.
- All three core team representatives must have prior experience working on at least one short film in any capacity, verified by providing a link in the application form.
- Scanned ID cards (KTP) for all team members.
- Clear portrait photos of all team members with visible faces.
- A short film story idea (fiction/documentary/animation) with a maximum duration of 8 minutes related to one or more of the following themes:
- Waste Management
- Energy Resilience and Renewable Energy
- Transportation,
- Climate

- Statement of readiness to participate in the entire series of events if selected and an open-minded attitude toward receiving criticism and new ideas. (statement).

SELECTION CRITERIA
A total of five (5) production groups will be selected to take part in the LENSA IKLIM BALI SHORT FILM FELLOWSHIP 2026 by the organisers, comprising a team of experts on the subject matter and short films.
The decision was reached jointly by the Minikino team and representatives of the Bali Net-Zero Emissions Coalition during a consultation aimed at reaching a consensus. The committee’s decision is final and not open to question.
CONDITIONS for selected production group:
- Take part in an in-person workshop to be held in Denpasar, including one-to-one mentoring sessions with mentors and subject matter experts to develop your script and plan your production.
- Receive a subsidy towards local travel costs to attend the in-person workshop in Denpasar on 14–16 July 2026
- Recipients will receive accommodation support in Denpasar for two nights to attend the in-person workshop in Denpasar on 14–16 July 2026, provided their place of residence is more than 20 km from the event venue.
- Recipients will receive production funding of Rp15,000,000 (fifteen million rupiah) per production group, to be disbursed in two installments in line with the progress of the project.
- To give a presentation at the Rough Cut Presentation & Feedback session of the LENSA IKLIM BALI SHORT FILM FELLOWSHIP 2026 at Minikino Film Week – Bali International Short Film Festival 12 (MFW12) and be eligible for consideration for a cash prize to support post-production and distribution costs worth Rp5,000,000 (five million rupiah), to be announced at the MFW12 awards ceremony on 18 September 2026

- All other unexpected expenses, local travel, internet, and living costs must be covered by the participants themselves.
- We ask that the production teams’ works include opening and closing credits, as specified by the Bali Net-Zero Emissions Coalition and Minikino.
- The maximum duration of short films is 8 minutes, including credits.
- The Bali Net-Zero Emissions Coalition and Minikino reserve the right to use—without payment of any fees—the names, images/photographs and voices of participants in the LENSA IKLIM BALI SHORT FILM FELLOWSHIP 2026, as captured in photographs, recordings and interviews, for non-commercial purposes.
About the Organizers
The Bali Net-Zero Emissions Coalition is a cross-sector platform designed to coordinate joint efforts to help the Province of Bali achieve net-zero emissions by 2045. Through policy support, accelerating adoption, and expanding collaboration, we are driving climate solutions and economic transformation in Bali that are aligned, measurable, and impactful. Members of the Bali Net-Zero Emissions Coalition include Azura Indonesia, CAST Foundation, IESR, New Energy Nexus, and WRI Indonesia.
Minikino, operating under the auspices of the Kino Media Foundation, is a Denpasar-based organization focused on the dissemination of short films. Active since 2002, the organization works in the fields of exhibition, education, and community engagement. Minikino collaborates with arthouse cinemas and public spaces repurposed as screening venues as part of an inclusive collective practice aimed at creating spaces for people to watch films, discuss them, and connect the films to their own experiences. Through local and transnational exchanges, Minikino connects various communities, practitioners, and audiences within a wider short film network.
