ON THE ROCKS
Programmer: Angelique MULLER
Program duration: 01:02:00
Programmer’s note:
Malta, might be one of the smallest European countries, it has nevertheless managed to make a name for itself in the world of cinema. Indeed, the Mediterranean archipelago home to the largest water tank studio in Europe has been servicing the film industry for close to 100 years; welcoming productions such as Alan Parker’s Midnight Express, Wolfgang Petersen’s Troy, Steven Spielberg’s Munich to name a few…
However, indigenous productions are still in their infancy with an average of 2 feature films and 5 short films made each year.
Angelique Muller has curated the short film selection of the Valletta Film festival from 2015 to 2019. The program she has put together for this month Minikino is infused metaphorical images and socio-political satire which she hopes fellow islanders will likewise relate to.
