Since its inception in 2002, Minikino has placed critical thinking at the heart of its mission. More than two decades later, this commitment continues through ongoing research into how short film discussions and filmmaking activities can support the development of children and youth aged 4–17.
In 2024, Minikino launched a year-round public program inviting schools, teachers, parents, and individuals to recognize the value of short films as a meaningful educational supplement. For MFW11, the Education Team has selected 59 films in 11 programs from the official selection, each accompanied by a Watch and Learn Guide to support reflection and discussion after the screening.
Activities such as school field trips, filmmaker Q&A sessions, and hands-on learning stations at the festival hub further extend this initiative—fostering curiosity, empathy, and critical thinking through the shared experience of short films.
Webinar: MFW11 Guide for Educators (Petunjuk Jelajah Edukasi MFW11)
Discover new ways to learn and teach with short films at Minikino Film Week 11 (MFW11)! Minikino invites educators, education observers, and parents to join the MFW11 Guide for Educators webinar. This pre-festival event is designed to introduce the Short Films for School program, which uses 59 films from 11 short film programs to help students aged 4–17 develop critical thinking and empathy. Participants will learn how to use the provided Watch and Learn Kit—a guide with film lists, age recommendations, and discussion prompts—to select appropriate films and facilitate meaningful post-screening conversations.

NURTURING FILM CRITIQUE: A TALK WITH MFW11’S FESTIVAL WRITERS
OPEN FOR PUBLIC CONDUCTED IN BAHASA INDONESIA & ENGLISH
What happens when young writers are given the space, mentorship, and access to the short film festival circuit?
This session highlights the journey of participants in the Hybrid Internship for Film Festival Writers, a Minikino initiative that fosters emerging voices in film criticism through immersive, hands-on engagement with a festival environment.
Over the course of this six-month program, participants met with national and international guest speakers, joined book clubs, and watched countless short films—developing their critical voice and unique perspective along the way. In this public presentation, they share selected excerpts, insights, and reflections from their writing journey, inviting us to reconsider how we watch, interpret, and engage with film.
Join us in supporting the next generation of film thinkers and celebrating the growing ecosystem of film criticism in Indonesia.
Join our programmers and education team to get to know Minikino Film Week more closely. This informal tour is open to students and anyone interested in the festival. It offers an opportunity to learn about the ideas that guide Minikino’s work, how the programs are developed, and the ways people can take part.
Inspired by the eleven MFW11 mascot characters illustrated by artist Beng Rahadian, this activity invites children to explore their creativity through coloring. Using specially designed worksheets, participants can bring each character to life with their own choice of colors, while appreciating the creative process behind the artwork.
HOW TO JOIN
For children aged 4–12 years. Children under 6 must be accompanied by a guardian
Walk-in only, no registration required.
Each slot lasts 90 minutes.
Bring your coloring tools (crayons, colored pencils, or markers)
Building on the same illustrated characters, this activity encourages children to imagine and write simple stories. Guided by the worksheets, they can develop basic plots and personalities, turning
visual inspiration into words.
The KORINCO GAMES premiere is showing at the MFW11 Opening event, showcasing the results of the stop-motion animation workshop held by Minikino in collaboration with SESIFF (South Korea) and Bogoshorts (Colombia), as part of the MFW11 Pre-event activities.
This marks the second year of this transnational collaboration, a workshop designed specifically for children. This engaging workshop introduced young participants to the captivating world of stop-motion animation, where they learned the basics of storytelling, character design, and animation techniques. Guided by experienced mentors, children created their short animations, fostering creativity and technical skills in a fun and supportive environment.
The workshops took place on July 9-11 in Bali (Minikino), July 13-14 in Seoul (SESIFF), and July 26-28 in Bogota (BOGOSHORTS). This year’s theme, “KORINCO MUSEUM,” highlighted traditional children’s games from three countries, following last year’s “KORINCO Games” featuring three animal chefs.
The animations will have their world premiere at all three festivals this year.
