Programmer’s Note
FINDING TORONTO

Multiculturalism is the best word to describe Toronto, one of the biggest cities in northern America. Toronto could be home to all the culture of the world, in which almost 100 languages are used in daily life. Immigrants come from China, India, Pakistan, Hongkong, Iran, Srilanka, the Philippines, Taiwan, Russia, and Jamaica.

Godard says “Cinema is not a reflection of reality, it’s a reality of that reflection”. The program “Finding Toronto” is showing at Minikino this month, and from it we might be able to watch what’s happening around Toronto, not only seeing but also feeling the details of things.

Please find for yourselves what Toronto is looking for.

Edwin
(Guest Programmer)

Edwin visited the Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival 2003 to attend a screening of his short film “A Very Slow Breakfast” (Indonesia 2002, 5 minutes), one of the 7 shorts in Minikino’s program for the festival, “Indonesia Unexpected” (programmed by Kiki Moechtar/Minikino). “Finding Toronto” is what he found in Toronto while he was there. At the moment, after an intensive work as Assistant Director for Riri Riza in the upcoming feature-length “Gie”, Edwin is finishing his final project for the Arts Institute of Jakarta where he majors in Directing.

Presenter: Mima Komaling
