Live in a world full of oppression is not easy. Sometimes our religious identity, gender, sexual orientation, and vulnerability become legitimation to be the target of repression. The characters from these films decided to deal with the oppression through self-liberation – by empowering, resisting abuse and eradicating stigma.

Courage and resistance is an expository and observational documentary showing the situation in Trump’s America after a lot of people chose to express what they feel in a violent way without any respect for anyone.
Filmmaker short bio:
Hanan Higgi is a native Saudi Arabian and is fluent in Arabic, English and Tigrinya. She attended Taibah University in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia and holds a Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Education. Currently, she is a Masters student at New York Film Academy in Los Angeles. Over the past 2 years, Hanan has produced and directed several documentaries including Grow, 7 Times and the web series Taco World Wide and Hijabi Women.

Iwan is a shopkeeper who hides the fact that he is gay. Inspired by the money that read the name and phone number he received, Iwan decided to write “I’m gay” and his phone number on a bill of 10 thousands, hoping to get a call from another gay man. But the phone he received made him lose hope of getting true love. The last call from a gay claimed to meet him. Iwan must decide to meet this mysterious person or give up the pursuit of true love. In the end he chose love.

Hilda Lopes Pontes Mestre em Artes Cênicas pela Universidade Federal da Bahia, tem três curtas realizados. Caos (2014), Estela (2017), vencedor de dois prêmios e Onze Minutos, vencedor de oito prêmios, foi exibido em festivais como Mostra de Cinema de Tiradentes, Panorama Coisa de Cinema e Festival de Cinema de Triunfo. . É idealizadora e coordenadora da Mostra Lugar de Mulher é no Cinema, criada em 2017. Vencedora do Prêmio de Melhor Montagem no Festival Mimoso de Cinema, pelo filme Não Falo com Estranhos, em 2018.
