SHORTS UP 2025

Powered by Minikino and the Purin Film Fund with the support of the National Talent Management for Arts and Culture

The Indonesian film industry has grown significantly over the past 20 years, yet many filmmakers still face skill and knowledge gaps. Founded in 2024, SHORTS UP was created to bridge this divide by supporting emerging talents who lack access to opportunities, resources, and information to make their short films.

SHORTS UP nurtures fresh perspectives, enhances industry diversity, and strengthens Southeast Asia’s cinematic landscape. SHORTS UP helps bring regional stories to a global audience by empowering new voices.

PURIN PICTURES

Purin Film Fund is a Bangkok-based initiative supporting independent cinema in Southeast Asia. Founded in 2017 under the Purin Foundation, we support filmmakers and organizations doing essential work in a region with inadequate government support.

Our funds cover film production, post-production, and activities. Previously funded films have gone on to premiere at leading international festivals including Cannes, Berlin, and Venice, and on streaming platforms such as Netflix, Prime, and Disney – helping to bring Southeast Asian cinema to a wider international audience.

Supplementing our funding programs, we also organize the annual Short Film Camp to mentor young filmmakers from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand.  The SFC serves a vital role in an area with less-developed film industries, discovering young talents and providing mentorship for them to begin their careers.

Finally, Purin Film Fund also works with partner organizations to create programs that align with our objective to support cinema in Southeast Asia.

Through film festivals, Minikino facilitates global intercultural meetings, believes that culture can only exist and develop with exchange, not isolation.

Minikino lives with its partners. International collaborations have taken place since 2002 with strong network of annual short film programme exchange that connect cities in Indonesia (Indonesia Raja), S-Express in South East Asia (Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Philippines, Brunei, Vietnam). We collaborate with other festivals in East Asia (Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and China), Australia, New Zealand, Colombia, Canada, USA, the Netherlands, Germany, Finland, Norwegia, Poland, Spain.

Minikino organized and work independently. The organization’s running cost is solely covered by private funding, collaborators, sponsors, and occasional government’s funding as per-project basis. Minikino (Yayasan Kino Media) is the receiver of Strategic Event Fund 2022-2025, supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, as well as the Education Fund Management Institution through the 2022-2024 Cultural Endowment Fund Utilization Program.
